I've jsut got in now from the most fabulous tea I've ever eaten.  My god it was awesome.  I'm not going to be able to eat for a week.

There was a set menu of 8 courses, but one of those was the sorbet so that doesn't really count.

Firstly was an amuse bouche that I missed the explanation of because I went to the loo.  When I returned to find it on my table, Simon described it as 'Chef Atul's famous tandoori rabbit shi t, with some green cr ap on the side'.  I have no idea what it was but it was fab.

Then came the mustard cured salmon with lobster rillette and blood orange salad.  The salmon was kinda raw with loads of spices on the top, and lobster rillette was served in a shot glass.  I resisted the temptation to do a Great British Menu Judge thing and smell each bit, but the consistency of the salmon and the subtle spices n the lobster, just perfect.

Third course was duck terrine with citrus star anise jelly and kashmiri bread.  The duck terrine was so fresh and the lumps of duck in it just melted in the mouth.  The bread was so light and fluffy it was unbelievable.

Then came tandoori quail with coconut and rocket salad.  Best thing I have ever tasted in my entire life.  It was so spicy without being hot, and the meat just fell off the bone.

The fish course was goujons of john dory with garlic mushy peas.  Even Simon ate the peas, and I've never seen him do that in all our years together (he detests peas).  The John Dory was in a spicy batter which was really light and fluffy.

Then came the sorbet, which (oddly for a pallet cleanser) contained curry leaves but was really light and refreshing.

The main course was then served, which was roast lamb with chickpea and turnip casserole and smoked sweet potato mash.  The lamb was jsut about pink and the casserole was subtly spiced.  It was the first time I've eaten sweet potato, and it was good, but I'm not sure if that was me liking sweet potato or just me loving everythign the man served to us.

Dessert was chocolate brownies with strawberry icecream.  Delish.

All in all, such a fantastic night.  Atul is such a genuinely nice man.  He was in and out of the kitchen all night, and the kitchen hs a glazed wall so you can watch everything that's going on in there.  He brought his sous chef from Benares with him to help out and he was actually making the mashed sweet potato and having the final say in the presentation of each dish before it was served.

Apparently he's coming back in about 6 months to do it again.  I'm counting the days.

Our contract ends on 10th October 2010, and we're hoping for another couple of years after that.  But then again, we're thinking we might fancy moving to Oman in the next year or so.
