Tiny village, middle of nowhere but close enough to Ludlow to lure a chef away from the bright lights of London. I don't know the history but it obviously used to be a proper pub at one point but now I fear is it a 'gastropub'
However I put my prejudices to one side for an evening as it was 2 courses for £10 midweek until 8pm (we arrived at 7.55pm )
The welcome was not very welcoming and the decor was tired with peeling paint and lightbulbs hanging out of the ceiling. The staff need to chat and smile at the very least to make their customers feel comfortable.
The food was superb, I had fish & chips and mushy peas followed by creme brulee with a homemade shortbread biscuit. It was all yummalicious. MrM had steak & ale pie which arrived with veg and then to his surprise a massive bowl of roast spuds. He had blackberry & apple crumble for pud.
As a pub it sucks ass. It has completely alienated the locals and there is nowhere to just have a drink.
As a restaurant with rooms it is lovely if in need of some Dulux.
Would deffo go again just for the food.
